What is AFN?
AFN is the currency code for Afghan Afghan and is the currency used in Afghanistan and it uses the symbol Ø‹. The currency was introduced back in 2003 to replace the commonly used Afghanistan Afghani (AFA). Upon its introduction, two rates were also introduced including the 1000 which was issued by the government as well as 2000 of the northern alliance.

What is the History of AFN and Afghanistan Currencies?
Afghanistan started using AFA in 1925 and in the period before that the countries official currency was Afghan rupee.
Afghanistan had its first treasury notes in 1925-1928. Banks were nationalised in 1975 and by the year 1981 50 Afghanis were equivalent to 1 USD. Nonetheless, after Taliban rulers took over Afghanistan in 1966 Taliban central bank stipulated
that Afghanistan Afghani was worthless causing the bank to cancel the contract it had with Russia to print its money. This led to the currency being devalued to a level where 43 Afghan were equivalent to 1 USD. AFN was introduced in 2002
and the country started using it in 2003 as its official currency. By the year 2005, Afghani coins were used to replace 1, 5 and 2 Afghani bank notes and in the same year the economy started to grow fast. Currently the AFA bank notes being used in Afghanistan are 10Afs, 20Afs, 50Afs, 1Afs, 2Afs, 5Afs, 500Afs, and 1000Afs.

How does AFN Compare to other Currencies?
Currently, 1 AFN is equivalent to 0.016152 USD. Furthermore, 1 AFN is also equivalent to 1.5387 Pakistan Rupees (PKR). Conversion of AFN to USD is the most commonly used Afghan Afghani exchange rate conversion.

Does Afghanistan has Stock Markets?
Afghanistan has no stock market and the country handles all its money lending and foreign exchange through money bazaars. Foreign exchange rate in Afghanistan is determined by market forces except during World War 1. The currency has
continued to appreciate in value in comparison to the USD even after depreciating for many years. Currently,
the currency enjoys high stability which can be attributed to the high level of promotion that has been carried out in the country in favour of the AFN currency.

Currency Information on Afghani - AFN- Afghanistan Afghani - ؋
AFN is the ISO for the new Afghani, which was introduced in 2003, after unregulated and unrestrained printing of bank notes populated Afghanistan to have a circulation of over 15 trillion Afghani.

It was during this time that Anwar Ul-Haq Ahadi, the Afghan central Bank governor, decreed that all prices would be displayed in Afghani and all item should be purchased using Afghani, where US Dollars and Pakistani Rupees had been accepted prior. Since the introduction of the new Afghani, exchange rates have remained steady in growth and administrative measures, introduced with the aim of encouraging the use of the new Afghani have assisted with this.

This has also meant that the population of Afghanistan have more willingly begun to use their own currency as a means of buying and selling goods.
